On Tuesday, Apple held their first event (Peek Performance) of 2022. Apple has made some important announcements regarding their latest products, which will be available on the market in 2022. As many had predicted, the presentation confirmed that Apple would be releasing the new iPhone SE model. And everyone’s attention has been drawn to the new “even more amazing” iPad Air. However, today’s conversation focuses on Apple’s new M1 Ultra chip.

In 2020, Apple introduced their first silicon hardware, “The M1-Chip”. M1 offered the best performance per watt of any processor on the market at the time. It was a single chip that combined all the various components of the computer in one device. This enabled a new level of integration and performance while ensuring greater power efficiency. The M1 chip also featured a unified memory architecture, bringing together high-bandwidth, low-latency memory in a single pool for faster information exchange. This was a watershed moment in the computing world.

The evolution of Apple M1 Chips

In 2021, Apple upgraded its M1 processor to M1 Pro and M1 Max. This year (2022), Apple introduced the new and improved Apple M1 Ultra, which is now Apple’s fastest Apple silicon chip. The Apple M1 Ultra is a desktop CPU that packs 20 cores. The performance-focused 16 Firestorm cores are paired with 4 efficiency cores. These cores don’t have the same weight as the M1 Max, but they’re still very potent and will help increase CPU throughput in heavily threaded scenarios.

The M1 Ultra chip features more performance cores than efficiency cores. Compared to the older generation M1 chips, the M1 Ultra’s performance cores are doubled. Moreover, the M1 Ultra is 90 per cent faster than the fastest 16-core PC desktop chip.

The newer processor requires less energy and has longer battery life. This new processor is exclusively used in the MacBook Studio and Mac Pro. However, it has one major drawback compared to other multi-chip interconnect technologies: the price. The Apple M1 Ultra-powered Mac Studio price begins at $3,999 and includes 64GB of memory and 1TB of storage in the entry-level model.

The CPU inside the Apple M1 Ultra is more powerful than its predecessor. It has twice the number of LPDDR5 dies. The Apple M1 Ultra has 32 LPDDR5 channels, whereas Apple M1 Max features only 16 LPDDR5. The Apple M1 Ultra also has a 64-core GPU that only uses 30 per cent of the power of most graphics cards.

According to Apple, M1 Ultra delivers up to eight times faster GPU performance than the M1. Apple offers 64GB and 128GB unified memory capacity and 800GB/sec memory bandwidth. Despite the higher price, the Apple M1 Ultra is worth the price.

The M1 Ultra is based on the M1 Max chip and features a transformational architecture. It comprises two M1 Max dies, each with 57B transistors (114B Total Transistors). It has more CPU cores than the M1 Max and is up to 50% faster than its predecessor. The M1 Ultra is also 3.7 times faster at transcoding video than the 16-core Mac Pro.

Apple’s new M1 Ultra chip significantly increases battery life. MacBook Pro battery life lasts for up to 17 hours when browsing the web and up to 20 hours when watching movies on Apple TV. In other words, It has two times the battery life of a prior-generation MacBook Pro.

The M1 Ultra has twice as many GPU cores as the M1 Max. It features a 32-core Neural Engine, making it best suited for developers and graphic designers. This CPU is capable of processing 3D videos, while a quad-core GPU is designed for 2D and multi-layered tasks. M1 Ultra can substantially enhance the rendering speed so that graphic designers can work with large 3D models. It’s also faster than the M1 Max, which is excellent for professionals who work with graphics. It will also allow you to edit video or perform other GPU-intensive tasks efficiently with minimum sound and low temperature, which is an absolute must for anyone who creates content.

The CPU performance of the M1 Ultra is actually twice as fast as that of the M1 Max, as the M1 Ultra is actually two basic M1 Max processors joined together. On the other hand, Apple has done an excellent job of combining two M1 Max chips. So, why do you buy one M1 Max when you can buy two? Apple M1 Ultra chip is perfect for creative professionals. The Apple M1 Ultra is regarded as the world’s most powerful chip created for computers. Apple has once again proven that it is a forerunner in innovation.
