Do you have dark circles under your lower eyelids? Well, It is not difficult to get rid of dark circles. We all want to look good, impress people around us. We place a high value on our physical appearance. That is why we look ourselves in the mirror countless times throughout the day. Unfortunately, many of you have lost sight of the fact that you are a beautiful soul on the inside. Having dark circles under eyes has a detrimental effect on the personalities of many people, especially women. Because they are so concerned with skincare, having dark circles can impair their self-esteem.

This is common in both men and women and does not indicate you have a severe health issue. There is no need to instill needless dread. However, dark circles may make you look older than you are, but there are many things you can do on your own to get rid of dark circles.  This article will explore the causes of dark circles and some home remedies that you can try to get rid of dark circles easily.

Home Remedies For Under-Eye Dark Circles

Causes For Dark Circles

Fatigue

Dark circles can occur for a variety of causes. However, fatigue is considered to be the main culprit. Fatigue is only a symptom, not a condition. Today the society is not as simple as it used to be. Our Circadian Rhythm has been thrown off by spending too much time on our phones and binge-watching Netflix. When Circadian Rhythm is disrupted, your body’s systems do not function optimally. An erratic Sleep Schedule can cause the blood vessels under your eyelids to dilate, increasing the blood flow. The dark tint caused by increased blood flow is clearly visible because the eyelid’s skin is the thinnest in the body.

Additionally, sleep deprivation causes fluid to accumulate under your eyelids, resulting in eye bags. When those who have had at least 8 hours of sleep wake up fresh-faced, the sleep-deprived person looks melancholy all day.

Eye Allergies

Allergies can easily cause your eyelids and the blood vessels within them to become inflamed. When we have allergic reactions, our immune system produces a chemical called histamine to combat and repel harmful bacteria. Histamines can cause itching in the eyes. Histamine increases blood flow to allergen-affected areas of your body, causing blood vessels to dilate and release more fluid. This fluid will build and cause eye bags, although people frequently confuse eye bags with dark circles. They are not the same, but luckily, the treatments are pretty similar in this case.

Insufficient Water Intake

Water makes up around 75% of the human body. As we breathe, sweat, urinate, and defecate, water is constantly lost throughout the day. When our body gets dehydrated, our thirst mechanism signals us to increase the fluid intake. The best way to replenish the fluid level in our body is by drinking water. However, Caffeine-containing beverages, such as coffee, tea, and sodas, should be avoided by dehydrated people. Dehydration causes your eyes to seem sunken in because your blood vessels do not have adequate blood flow. This can cause the thin skin surrounding your eyes to darken.

Genetics

Dark circles under the eyes often run in families. According to research published in The Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology, some family members have dark circles beneath their eyes. Many physical complications can be inherited from birth, such as inborn allergies and poor blood circulation, leading to the development of dark circles.

Non-White Ethnic Background

People with darker skin are more prone than others to have dark circles beneath their eyes. This is because the ability of the skin to produce pigment is higher in people with darker skin than in those with fairer complexion.

Age

Our body produces less fat and collagen, essential to maintaining our skin’s elasticity and optimum health as we age. Collagen deficiency causes sagging skin and the skin surrounding your eyes to darken. Furthermore, fat loss can lead to a decrease in facial volume, giving the appearance of dark circles. The level of melanin in our skin determines the color of our skin. As a result, people with darker skin exhibit signs of aging considerably later in their lives than people with fairer skin tones.

Home Remedies To Get Rid Of Dark Circles

You are now aware that dark circles can occur at any point in your life. Particularly as you get older. Just as you take efforts to remove dark circles when they appear, it is equally important for people who do not have them or have removed them to prevent them from occurring. To be honest, the most important trick is prevention. Here are some simple home remedies for dark circles that you can try.

Use UV Light Blocking Ointments

Using good sunscreen is one of our measures to prevent dark circles beneath our eyes. But keep in mind that sunscreen cannot block all UV rays; it is only a filter you apply to your skin to minimize the potential skin damage that the harmful UV rays can cause. Prolonged sun exposure can even thin your skin, as our eyelid skin is the thinnest in our body. Sunscreen is now available in various forms on the market, including ointments, gels, sprays, creams, lotions, wipes, and lip balms.

Some cosmetics and make-ups contain sunscreen; nonetheless, it is essential to read the product label carefully before purchasing. When purchasing sunscreen, it is critical to check the Sun Protection Factor (SPF). The SPF level of a sunscreen indicates the level of protection it offers. The higher the SPF value, the higher the protection. It is recommended to buy an SPF50 or higher sunscreen as it provides 98% to 99% protection against harmful UV rays.

Wear 100% UV Light Protection Sunglasses

Wearing UV light protection Sunglasses can protect your eyes and prevent additional thinning of the skin surrounding your eyelids in the same way that you use sunscreen to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Make sure you check your sunglasses provide 100 percent protection from both UVB and UVA rays before buying them. The lenses should also be able to block UV wavelengths up to 400 nanometers.

Use Moisturizing Cream

Moisturizing daily is crucial for healthy skin and should be part of any excellent skincare routine. Apply a moisturizing cream to the eyelids to assist in maintaining and strengthening the tissue. The skin is the biggest organ in our body, and it requires more attention and care than we usually give it. When shopping for a moisturizer, Choose an oil-free, non-comedogenic, and dermatologist-tested lotion that is high in vitamin A, vitamin B5, vitamin C, and vitamin E. After showering, shaving, and cleansing your skin, it is important to use a moisturizing cream to replenish the moisture and oiliness of your skin. You can also speak with your dermatologist about possible prescription medications to help thicken your skin.

Shrink Your Blood Vessels With Caffeine

Caffeine serves as a diuretic, helping to remove fluid from the body and temporarily constricting your blood vessels, reducing inflammation and puffiness. It reduces wrinkles and aids in the treatment of a skin condition known as cellulite. Caffeine also has the ability to tighten and brighten the skin. Drinking a coffee or black teacup will help constrict the blood vessels and make the dark circles less visible.

You can also try the moistened tea bag treatment because caffeine can be absorbed through the skin. This is how exactly Gabrielle Union treats the dark circles beneath her eyes. A few years back, she told The New York Times that she used Lipton tea bags on her under-eye. That is why some medications and lotions for dark circles contain caffeine as an ingredient. Chill two tea bags in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes. Then squeeze off the extra liquid and leave it on the area beneath the eyes for 15 to 30 minutes.

Cold Compress

Cold compresses are a simple and efficient home remedy for those who suffer from dark circles under their eyes. This is what basically you do to your elbow or knee after it’s been injured. Icing them would help lessen the swelling of the blood vessels and slow down fluid movement without promoting swelling. You can use an eye mask to do a cold compress. Alternatively, you can wrap ice cubes on a clean cloth and rub them around your eyes or try out the frozen spoon trick. Put a few spoons in the freezer for a few hours, then place the frozen spoon on your eyelid to cool down swelling.

Use Aloe Vera Gel Before Bed

When it comes to treating dark circles under the eyes, Aloe Vera is especially useful. Aloe Vera is a plant that is rich in active nutrients. It contains a lot of minerals, vitamins, amino acids, and anti-pigmentation properties. Vitamin E in Aloe Vera acts as an antioxidant and reduces signs of aging. Applying Aloe Vera to the skin also helps to soothe and moisturize it. If you have an Aloe Vera plant in your garden, you can make your own gel at home to apply and massage it into the skin and leave it overnight. Those who don’t have a plant in their garden can consider buying an Aloe Vera Gel.

Get Enough Sleep

Sleep is essential for our physical and mental well-being. When you don’t get enough sleep, your brain can’t function properly. This can affect your ability to focus, think logically, and process memories. You will feel excessively tired throughout the day. This will result in lower hormone levels, thinner skin, and a detrimental impact on your blood vessels. It is recommended that you get between seven and nine hours of sleep every night, so your body and mind have plenty of time to rejuvenate. Getting enough sleep will prevent fluid from accumulating under your eyelids, and it will keep you fresh throughout the day.

Beautiful Girl Sleeping

Sleep On An Incline

This is not simply a remedy for dark circles; There are several advantages to sleeping with your head elevated. It will avoid fluid from accumulating under your eyes, eliminating puffiness and swelling. The fluid that pools under the eyes drain into the rest of the body. The brain detoxification process improves when the body is elevated during sleep. This will also increase the amount of time you spend in deep sleep. If you don’t have access to an adjustable bed, you can sleep with extra pillows under your head.

Final Thought

Dark circles are more likely to occur as we become older. The hereditary dark circles that occur in childhood may disappear or worsen as we grow up. Whatever the reason for your dark circles, there are many simple home remedies you can try. However, hyperpigmentation of the eyelids is difficult to treat on your own. In that case, you can use concealers or optical diffusers to help match the color of your eyelid with the color of your facial tissue. You can also consult a dermatologist for laser treatment or pulsed light therapy for hyperpigmentation of your eyelids.
