Virtually everybody in our world has heard about the sage Elon Musk, particularly after he toppled Jeff Bezos as the richest man in the world. Elon musk is a renowned entrepreneur who recently became the richest man in the world. He is a South African-born American businessman and the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX. His mother was of Canadian descent, while his father was from South Africa. He lived briefly in South Africa before moving to Canada and finally moving to the United States of America, where he established himself as a successful entrepreneur.
Grimes, a 33-year-old Canadian musician, has been Elon Musk’s partner since 2018. Grimes had to deal with a slew of criticisms and scorn as a result of her relationship with Elon Musk. Regardless of how much hate Elon Musk Grimes romance receives, the lovers are still together. But people harassing Grimes on social media hasn’t ended yet.
Elon Musk has always had an interest in tech as he started coding and building small tech gadgets when he was young, living in the city of Pretoria. He learned on his own without any training coding, and later on, in his stay in South Africa, he built a video game called the Blastar when he was about 12 years old. When he got to the United States, he was given admission to study economics and physics in the US. After that, he began his entrepreneurship career by moving to Silicon Valley. Elon Musk has an ambition of promoting the use of green energy, making the internet cheaper, and promoting commercial space tourism.
SpaceX Starlink Launch
As previously stated, one of SpaceX’s objectives is to lower the cost of internet access. Everyone must have internet access. Elon Musk believes this. Therefore the SpaceX Starlink launch was for a constellation of artificial satellites offering satellite internet access. The first Starlink satellites were launched on February 22, 2018. Constellation is comprised of about 1600 SpaceX Starlink satellites. Elon is more obsessed with mass colonization than with other initiatives.
Elon’s Mars Dream
The Planet Mars
Mars is the 4th planet from the Sun. It is located between the Earth and Jupiter, it is inhabitable, but it is believed that Mars would be able to support life with some adjustment. The gravity of Mars is about 38% that of the Earth. This means that it would be easy to carry heavy objects on Mars compared to Earth. The atmospheric condition of the planet is believed to be below the Armstrong level needed for human survival. This means pressure suits would be needed on the planet
Elon Musk has always had his big and ambitious dream of Mars exploration and colonization dating back to the year 2001. He believes that humans should colonize the Planet Mars to have an alternate habitat for humans which would be needed in time of emergency or should there be any apocalypse event on the Earth. This apocalypse could be in the form of a massive asteroid hitting the Earth, which would cause some disruptive event on the Earth.
Another reason why Elon Musk believes in Mars exploration is the fact that Elon Musk sees Mars exploration as a way to help Planet Earth mitigate against the impact of climate change because the bulk of the gases responsible for climate change would be useful for mars colonization.
Elon Musk has repeatedly highlighted how he plans to achieve this in several interviews he has granted. His interest in space exploration led to the creation of SpaceX with the following goals
- Gain the trust of international agencies like NASA. For Elon Musk to convince people about his goal, he believes he has to have a track record of successful space exploration that is evident and measurable by the public. This success would help attract investors. This has been the case since the start of SpaceX space travels. For the first time in more than a decade, SpaceX was able to launch American astronauts from American soil into the international space station. This marked a new era of commercial space exploration. At the same time, SpaceX became the first private company to launch an Astronaut into the international space station.
- SpaceX plans to reduce the cost of space transportation and exploration by a factor of 10 while at the same time increasing its reliability and accessibility. Currently, SpaceX’s cost of transportation to space is one of the least in the world. This was achieved through the roll-out of reusable rockets and vehicles, which makes it possible to reuse a particular rocket again and again.
- And of course, promote interplanetary transportation through the technology of reusable technology.
Elon Musk’s space ambition is under SpaceX, which has been actively testing and researching the technology for Mars exploration. The timeline of events for Mars exploration was set in 2016. The company hoped to land the first man in space by 2024. This was the timeline set by SpaceX before Mars colonization, but later in 2020, Elon Musk being skeptical about that ambition. He speculated that 2024 will probably be the year of unmanned space missions and that the first man will land on Mars by 2026.
Here are some of SpaceX plans for Mars exploration
The Vehicle for this Mars exploration will be the Starship Spacecraft. It is used with the super-heavy, which together is known as the Starship. It can be fully reused as a transport system, and it is designed for carrying space crew together with cargo from Earth to space, including deep space. It can deliver payloads to the Earth orbit, the Moon, Mars, and beyond. On completion, Starship is going to the most powerful space vehicle ever built. It would be capable of carrying over 100 metric tonnes of load. Reusable rocket and space vehicle is a fundamental requirement for SpaceX exploration because it would make it cheaper and also easier. There have been challenges building this rocket, but the latest test was a huge success.
Advancing Recyclable Technologies
Mars is a planet with no rain and fossil fuel availability, so surviving on the planet would be difficult and challenging. This is why SpaceX has been developing recyclable technology for its Mars exploration. On Mars, getting water and fuel for starship rocket would be made possible through recycling.
Because of the atmospheric condition of the planet, humans cannot live on the planet, but as a result of Elon Musk interest in the colonization of the planet, it has been touted that the way to making the planet conducive for human habitation is Terraforming, Terraforming is a process that involves the intentional modification of the topography, atmosphere, and other unique characteristics of the planet to make it habitable for man. The idea sounds crazy because of how it would be achieved. It involves nuking the planet with a massive payload of nuclear bombs. It is believed that doing this would help bring about structural changes that will make the planet habitable for us. The idea of Terraforming has been likened to the Big Bang theory. Elon Musk particularly is a huge fan of this concept as he proposed it in 2014. He claimed such an act would speed up the process of colonization of Mars. He said this on TV and also on Twitter.
“Nuke Mars refers to a continuous stream of very low fallout nuclear fusion explosions above the atmosphere to create artificial suns. Much like our Sun, this would not cause Mars to become radioactive.” This was on August 20, 2019 (Twitter)
While the possibility of Elon Musk through SpaceX sending the first human to space by 2024 is not certain, but we could always hope that by 2026, he would have made this possible.
Elon Musk hopes to send about a million people to Mars to colonize it by 2050, and so we diligently observe this timeline as the deadline gets closer.
